Focus: Compete for Skill Development
The U8-U12 program is organized to teach fundamental skiing skills and introduce competitive ski racing to young athletes. Emphasis is placed on the technical fundamentals of skiing that apply to all types of alpine skiing. In addition, fundamental skills will be taught, including balance, edging, body position, and more, and the introduction of the tactical fundamentals of racing… and always having fun!
Participants must be able to put on their own ski equipment, load and ride the lift alone, and ski at an intermediate level.
U8-U12 are Non-scored USSA races and do not earn USSA points.
Skill Development Focus
Work on balance, coordination, movement, and athletic stance on skis. The goal is for athletes to ski all terrains with adequate technique. In addition, athletes should have fundamental skills in carving, upper and lower body separation, and pole plant usage. Next, they should start working on cross-blocking gates, upper body rotation, course inspection, and line.
